Autumn 1
Autumn 1
English
In English, we will be exploring legends and persuasion. Through legends, we’ll discover traditional stories that have been passed down through generations, learning how they reflect culture, values, and imagination. Alongside this, we’ll focus on persuasion - understanding how language can be used to influence others. We’ll practice identifying persuasive techniques in different texts and develop our own skills to write and speak in ways that convince and engage an audience.
Maths
In Maths, we will be learning about place value and addition and subtraction. Place value helps us understand the value of each digit in a number, which is an important foundation for all areas of maths. We’ll use this knowledge to work confidently with numbers, recognising hundreds, tens, and ones. We will also build our skills in addition and subtraction, practising different strategies to solve problems accurately and efficiently.
Science
In Science, we will be exploring the Earth and beyond. We’ll learn about our planet, the solar system, and the wider universe, discovering how the Earth relates to the sun, moon, and other planets. We will also investigate concepts such as day and night, the seasons, and the phases of the moon, developing a deeper understanding of space and our place within it.
History
In History, we will be exploring the question: Why did the Anglo-Saxons come to England? We’ll investigate who the Anglo-Saxons were, where they came from, and the reasons they decided to settle in England. We’ll look at the challenges they faced, the impact they had on life in Britain, and how their arrival shaped the country’s culture, traditions, and communities.
Geography
In Geography, we will be conducting a UK study of the North West region. We’ll learn about the physical and human features of this part of the country, including its landscapes, cities, and industries. We’ll also explore how the region has developed over time and consider what makes it unique compared to other areas of the UK.
Computing
In Computing, we will be focusing on online safety. We’ll learn how to use the internet responsibly, understanding the importance of protecting personal information and recognising potential risks online. We’ll also explore strategies to stay safe while communicating, playing, and learning in digital spaces, helping us become confident and responsible digital citizens.
