Year 1 – Upcoming Half Term Highlights

We have a fun and exciting half term ahead in Year 1, packed with a variety of activities to keep the children engaged and learning in different ways. Here are just a few of the things we’re looking forward to:

• Trip to Ribble Steam Railway

• Sports Day

• Healthy Week

• Transition Day

English

This half term, we’ll be exploring the story "How To Train a Train." The children will be learning about different types of trains and visiting a train museum to bring the topic to life. In class, we’ll focus on improving the quality of our writing by using conjunctions and continuing to practise our handwriting and sentence formation.

Maths

Our maths topics this term include:

• Position and Direction

• Place Value within 100

• Money

• Time

Some of these can be quite tricky, so any extra support or practice at home would be really beneficial to help the children deepen their understanding.

Science

We are continuing our topic on animals, learning to group them and understand their different characteristics. We’ll also be exploring the season of summer and comparing it to the other seasons we’ve looked at so far.
